Apparently there are some people out there who haven’t gotten the word that the days of mass marketing are over. These troglodytes are still randomly pushing an untargeted, self-serving message on people.

I call this To Whom It May Concern Marketing. I don’t know about you, but receiving something addressed “To Whom It May Concern” sure gives me a warm and fuzzy feeling.

This type of marketing just makes people mad. They have enough on their minds without someone trying to elbow their way in with an offer that is of no interest. Typically, the offers are all about the product or service and not about the benefit to the prospect.

Today, whether you are selling yourself with a cover letter and resume or selling a product, it is a one-to-one world.

I frequently receive notes to my email address that are addressed “To Whom It May Concern”, or “Hiring Manager”, or even “Please pass this along to the appropriate person.” These PR job seekers exemplify this bad “marketing” behavior.

I used to respond to these people. I’d tell them: if you are looking for a job, it is your job to find it, not mine. Do a little research and find the right person – by name – to target before you pull the trigger. I’ve stopped responding.

On our website it is not hard to discover that we are a network of independent professionals. This means we don’t have employees, and that probably should tell an intelligent job seeker that we don’t need or want resumes.

Whether you sell products to customers, yourself to a hiring manager, or story ideas to journalists, you need to target people who have an interest and provide them information about how they’ll benefit.

Marketers need to embrace this one-to-one world. Those dinosaurs refusing to do so are destined for extinction.

By: Harry Hoover

Most businesses have both a strategic marketing plan and a tactical marketing plan, and it is important to keep these two platforms separate. People often mistakenly assume that when you talk about marketing, you’re speaking of “tactical” marketing, which consists of placing ads, generating leads, sending out mailers and brochures, etc. However, strategic marketing focuses on the message and communication of the message. Simply put, tactical marketing is the execution of your marketing plan – the medium by which your message is delivered, and strategic marketing focuses on the content of your message-what you say and to whom you say it.

The key difference is the focus on making sure overall customer situations mesh with your overall company direction. Not to get distracted, or veer off course of your overall company direction, but at every step of development for your strategic plan, and execution of your plan, that you are indeed on course of what the overall vision and goals of the company are.

Content vs. Execution

Many companies try to figure out how to sell more before they find out how to provide a solution to their consumers’ needs. The procedure for accomplishing this is exactly the same every single time, for every kind of business. It is the advertiser’s job to pay attention to human nature, to research human nature, and to have some insight into how people make their purchasing decisions. Strategically, marketing programs and advertising should get the attention of target market prospects and facilitate their decision-making. This lowers their risk for taking the next step in the buying process. By understanding what’s important to your target market, you can then put together a strategy that gets more qualified prospects to call, reduces your sales cycle, and increases your conversion ratios. After the strategy is in place, the tactical execution simply consists of testing and implementing your strategic plan. Business-to-business Strategic Marketing

There is a business-to-business aspect to many companies, in which case these business-to-business transactions count as customer situation. For marketing to businesses who are your clients and customers, this means combining industry sector segmentation and product use with other factors related to purchasing decisions. For example, this would include purchase criteria and decision motivations that effect larger, enterprise sized purchases. In this case, part of your strategic marketing plan is to build strong, personal relationships with these larger businesses, and focus on providing customized service, products and even anticipate the needs of your business clients. Although a business is obviously a larger entity than a single customer, many of the same principles prevail; the most important being a keen sense of service, and making them feel they are important and that you pay special attention to them.

A strategic marketing plan encompasses developing a message, and developing the best way to communicate this message-and contemplates the best strategy to deal with communicating this message. Tactical marketing is important as it executes the strategic plan, but it is important to keep these two subjects divided as you develop a successful marketing plan for your company.

By: Christian Fea

There are a number of restaurants that start business but without undertaking proper marketing strategies. For restaurant branding a professional campaign is required. Only word of mouth about the restaurant service, the quality of food and its ambiance is not enough. For promoting a restaurant business you need proper marketing to increase restaurant sales.

A marketing strategy is also required if you are planning to open a pub. Advertising is always not sufficient for building the reputation of your business. Restaurant marketing, bar and pub marketing are necessary to set up your business and it should not be taken as any redundant activity.

Different marketing techniques, marketing ideas, public relations, media relations, and creative designs are required to build a brand image for your restaurant, pub and bars. You also need to have proper local marketing, Internet marketing and marketing budget.

For restaurant and bar marketing different new marketing ideas are to be adopted. For building brand image and brand loyalty of your eatery, promotions are required inside as well as outside the business venue.

To build the image of your restaurant inside the business venue and for better sales you should take marketing advice from expert, maintain customer database and give emphasis on in-house branding.

For restaurant marketing outside your business venue, you need proper media relations, arrange corporate events, regular product launch and Internet marketing. Adopting sound and effective restaurant and pub marketing strategies, your business will draw more customers.

Giving out discount coupons, discount codes and special offers are surely to bring customers to your restaurant and bars. There are a many people who collect the discount coupons from Sunday newspaper and use them the next time they visit an eatery. This way they can save on their food bills and you get regular visitors.

Promotional discounts are very effective to draw new customers and it is your restaurant service that will tend them to come to your eatery on a regular basis. Competitions and games to win free meals and drinks can also be arranged which are also part of effective promotion for your restaurant.

By: Guy G Holmes

A network marketing lead is the most valuable commodity in the MLM business. Let’s face it, without leads you don’t have the fuel to run and grow your business.

So how do you attract the precious network marketing lead to your business? Easy… with marketing and it’s an aspect of the industry many unwittingly overlook preferring instead to spend their time trying outdated networking methods.

Creating a successful business is a combination of both the networking and marketing aspects of it but more emphasis should be placed on the marketing angle, particularly early in proceedings.

Marketing Your Offer

The key to creating a steady stream of leads to your business is massive exposure in the form of marketing. Get your offer out there so people can see it and combined with an offering of something of value to the prospect, then special things can begin to happen.

It’s the art of attracting leads to your business rather than you having to chase and harass family and friends to take a look at your opportunity. Sure, there will be a time when they will want to know what you are doing but when kicking off your MLM business your prime aim is to generate interest in your offer and that’s where marketing comes into play.

Getting your offer in front of as many people looking for an opportunity is the name of the game because the odds are strong that a good percentage of them will be interested.

Consistent Marketing Wins

Marketing on a consistent basis also creates strong interest leverage because not everyone responds to an offer the first time they see it. Some won’t make the move for months. So by establishing a solid work ethic early in your business can mean passive lead generation some ways down the track.

Your network marketing lead generation will soar to new heights with strong marketing and exposure of your offer. It’s a guaranteed way of feeding your business the fuel it needs to survive… a consistent flow of leads.

By: Dean Caporella

You know the routine; write down 100 names. Include everyone you know; from Uncle Bob to Dr. Cranium. Then, tell them about the amazing new “Vita-Juice” and the fantastic business opportunity that they need to join NOW! Be sure to crank out the calls and not leave anyone out.

A few weeks later, if anyone is still talking to you, you realize that MLM is a lot tougher than your sponsor led you to believe. That’s because you have focused all your energy in contacting your network (your “warm market”) and have tried to sell them on your business opportunity. You have done almost nothing to market them.

People don’t like to be sold; but they like to buy. When you try to sell your friends on the business opportunity, you encounter a natural resistance that we all have to being sold. It’s marketing that gets around that psychological barrier and taps into the desire to buy.

Marketing is preparing people to buy. It’s presenting all sorts of intriguing information to someone about a product. Then it attracts them to take a stroll down “Marketing Lane” , where they end up at a cliff called “SOLD”. If marketed effectively, they willingly jump off that cliff and later heartedly encourage their friends to do the same!

Traditional MLM has put the order of actions backwards and almost entirely ignores the more important one; marketing. You are taught to focus on your network and then sell them on the opportunity; great company, great products and what a compensation plan! You are taught to chase and pitch them; but not to market them. Instead of working on your network and trying to market (sell) them, you need to focus on marketing so that you can find a qualified network.

For the most part, the overwhelming majority of your “warm market” is no more qualified to start an MLM business than is any guy on the street. That’s why your sponsor will stress, “It’s a numbers game.” It sure is and it’s a lot of numbers!

If it isn’t obvious, the most qualified group for network marketing is network marketers. There are plenty of them out there that are open for a new opportunity. If you want to discover a simple and effective way to attract (market) them, read my article; Internet Network Marketing – You Only Get What You Give.

By: Philip Bourdon

You’ve read the headline before:

NINETY PERCENT OF ALL MLMers FAIL

Gasp! Horrors! On my! (Sounding like the Scarecrow in the Wizard of Oz.)

Oh come now… What’s the big deal? I’m sorry, but really: Why would this bother you?

Frankly, if only 90 percent of the people who try network marketing fail, that’s great! That would mean that somewhere between five and nine times more people are succeeding in this business than almost anywhere or at anything else.

Think about it:

How many who set out to win a gold metal in any of the 302 events in the 2008 Olympics in Beijing will lose? All but one in each event… (in raw numbers, thousands).

How many children, out of the 9,000,000-plus who entered this year’s Scripps National Spelling Bee won?

How many golfers are there at the start of the PGA or The Masters? How many win?

How many ideas for a brand new consumer goods product fail and never make it to market?

Interesting Notes: Of those products that do make it through R&D and marketing to the manufacturing process and actually hit the shelves, 97 percent will be taken off, thrown away and no longer made in their very first year! How many of these 15,000-plus new products introduced each and every year will you try and buy?

And don’t think lack of money is the problem. Many of these marvelous ideas have literally hundreds of millions of dollars behind them when they crash and burn.

Ever heard of Ford’s Edsel?

How about Xerox or Exxon computers? (Did you know Xerox “invented” the mouse, desktop and icons? Still failed.)

Or, toy-giant Ideal, who back when I was 10 (in 1958) had the absurd bad taste to introduce a Christ-child doll at Christmas!

Or, Premiere “smokeless” cigarettes from R.J. Reynolds, who invested five years and hundreds of millions on its R&D.

Or, General Motors’ Chevrolet Nova, which didn’t do so well in Mexico where they planned to sell huge numbers, simply because in Spanish the word “nova,” means “won’t go”.

Or, chewable toothpaste…

Everywhere you look, there are lots of failures–lots!

And lots of things that eventually succeeded were failures at first.

Bizet’s universally beloved opera, Carmen, was an opening night flop.
The Celestine Prophecy, was a dust-covered paper-back for a year before becoming a runaway, hard cover best-seller.

As for products, there’s a veritable gold mine of failed-first, but-look-at-me-now success stories. In his delightful (especially if you enjoy irony) book, Getting It Right the Second Time, Michael Gersham tells the story of 49 initial product failures that are now some of marketing’s greatest success stories. For example:

Kleenex bombed at first. It was marketed by Kimberly-Clark after World War I. They were a newsprint/wrapping paper company with warehouses full of “Cellucotton”–a medical dressing replacement used during the war. Only when some smart chap in marketing discovered, “Hey, you can blow your nose on this stuff and then just throw it away…” did the product become successful.

Jell-O failed, too, at first. For years it was a “dog,” and the brand was sold for only $450.

Pepsi went bankrupt. So did Walt Disney–five times!

Look, the predominant physical force on Earth is gravity, and it’s always pulling us down. 95 percent of everybody everywhere doing anything aren’t really cutting it. They certainly are not “winning”. As already asked, so what’s the big deal?

Just What Is “Failure” Anyway?

Show it to me. Go ahead, show us “failure”.

Failure is a word, specifically a noun kind of word, which means it is referring to a person, place or thing (none of which a failure is), or a state.

Ahhh… the great state of failure (must be just east of New Jersey), based on the verb; to fail, which means: to fall short of success in something expected, attempted, desired…

And who, pray tell, is the God-like expert who decrees such a falling short of success has just taken place?

A one and only not-so-omnipotent–yet when it comes to failure, always omnipresent–being, that Master expector, attempter, and desirer… YOU!

You–and only you–create the state or quality of failure. And you create it just because you say so.
strong>

True, there is a state of failure, but you are–at the very worst–only a tourist there on a brief visit. Heck, most times you’re just flying over or driving through. And you are the only authority on Earth who declares that you are or are not in failure. (Think about that… please.)

Failure and its inseparable partner success, are the proverbial two sides of the day-and-night like coin. Can’t have one without the other. Take away failure, no success either. And which one dominates at any given point in time does so simply because you say so.

Btw, ever hear Guy Kawsaki’s great line: “Failure is not an option. It’s a requirement!”

In Should You Quit Before You’re Fired? author Paul Zane Pilzer tells the story of a father secretly watching his little boy throwing a baseball up in the air with one hand, then swinging his bat to hit it as the ball fell back down. The youngster missed… missed again… and then missed the third time… spinning around and falling down on the ground while shouting, “Strike three. You’re out!”

The man rushed to help his son up, trying to hide the disappointment he felt at his son’s failure, only to have the boy say…

“So, what do you think? Not bad for a pitcher, huh, Dad?”

Failure and Success are states of mind

They exist only because you say so—either out loud or to your self.

And you can always choose what you say—either out loud or to your self.

“90 Percent of All Network Marketers Fail”.

Really… Okay, if you say so.

By: John Milton Fogg

Well, one of the biggest reasons people are not as successful in their home business as the want is that they can’t seem to take the action needed to move forward. They also have a hard time seeing themselves as a leader or person of worth Or they might be afraid of being rejected. The Emotional Freedom Technique is a tool to help a person move into the action and mindset mode of a leader to develop a successful home business.

Network Marketing or any home business requires training and then consistent, effective action to produce a successful home business. You hear people talking of the lead telephone that weighs 1000 pounds so they can’t pick it up. If something stops you from doing the things that bring success, you won’t succeed. People often spend extreme amounts of time going through e-mail, cleaning the kitchen, “managing” their organization, instead of doing the activities that move their business forward. Why is that?

A Leader Mindset:

People often lack the belief and confidence to move forward in their business. They have a hard time seeing themselves as a leader or person of worth. They are often afraid of being rejected. These actions, or non-actions, often come from long forgotten experiences that caused some form of emotional pain. Or negative comments from well meaning friends. These messages can paralyze a person and undermine their attempts to create a successful network marketing home business.

The Emotional Freedom Technique, as a tool, helps a person disrupt the emotional/ electrical energies that are blocking their ability to take action. By using the emotional freedom technique they can create belief in their business and a confident leader mindset. It allowss themto step up and take the actions necessary to develop a successful home business.

Emotional Freedom Technique: What is it?

Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) works with the body’s subtle energies, using acupuncture energy meridians-but no needles. You use a simple tapping system on specific points on the body and repeat particular affirmations to address your problem or block. EFT can be used for any type of stumbling block, for instance, a fear of public speaking, feelings of depression or the inability to take action. There is no need to understand the experience that caused the block and Emotional Freedom Technique works well whether you believe it is going to or not. A side effect seems to be the fact that physical symptoms are often alleviated in the process.

The Emotional Freedom Technique is a great way to make positive changes in your life. It is very simple process that you can do for free and by yourself. Changes often happen quickly, sometimes overnight. For stubborn issues, following the procedure for 30 consecutive days gives tremendous relief. This would only take about 3 minutes per day.

Network Marketing Home Business Leader

To be a leader and establish a successful network marketing home business, you must see yourself as a leader and be willing to take action. You must have a strong belief in yourself and in your company or business. Any feelings of fear or self worth must be addressed, in some way, so that you become a person who takes action, even if you don’t feel like it. The Emotional Freedom Technique is one of the great tools can help you to move forward..

By: Claire Covington

ITV Ventures is one of the hottest network marketing opportunities to come along in years. As you may or may not know, individuals now have the opportunity to “partner” with Donald Barrett, the infomercial king. While Donald Barrett is relatively new to the network marketing world, his ITV infomercial company has been around for 7 years. ITV Ventures features mostly health related products, which are often formulated and endorsed by experts in the industry.

Individuals who “partner” with Donald Barrett and ITV Ventures are considered independent business owners, and are referred to as an IBO. They have the ability to retail ITV products and recruit new independent business owners. They make money either way. The pay plan for ITV Ventures is a 4X7 matrix, which allows independent business owners to make between 4%-7% on the total volume of their down lines. The pay-out goes 7 levels deep. An attractive feature of the business opportunity is that once a product is sold to a customer, independent business owners keep that customer for the life of the customer’s purchases.

ItV Ventures offers a home agent program to it’s independent business owners. With this option, an IBO can handle the incoming phone calls that are generated from infomercials. They are routed by an Internet platform right to an IBO’s home. This is unique to network marketing, where typically individuals are responsible for educating potential customers about the benefits of their products or services.

So what about ITV Ventures, is it the “real deal?” The “holy grail” of network marketing? Sort of. Their are some factors regarding the cost of various aspects of the program that need to be considered. Independent business owners are required to ‘move” a minimum of 100.00 worth of products per month. The 100.00 can come as a result of self purchases or customer purchases. The home agent program has a monthly fee as well. Home agents must pay for “call credits” in order to handle incoming calls.”Call credits with ITV Ventures are 1.00 each, with the average call costing about 20 “credits”, or twenty dollars.

The success of a network marketing company hinges on it’s ability to create a system that can be duplicated. Each individual must be able to be “plugged” into the “system” and be able to experience success. With the business opportunity, Independent business owners need to be good sales people. The products are expensive, and not every incoming call results in a sale. Far from it. The company does offer an excellent training program, and quality support.

In conclusion, ITV Ventures is an exciting opportunity. Donald Barrett has plans to add many new products and services in the very new future. The company has a good “handle” on what consumers are looking for in the health market, as well as other markets. The fact that ITV Ventures uses the credibility of infomercials to help build an independent business owner’s business, is very powerful. Plan on hearing more about ITV Ventures in the near future.

By: Michael S Hutchins

Some of the major benefits that a network marketing business can provide for the average family is to allow them to earn a supplemental income and in other cases even replacement income. All across the country there are many families and individuals that have been affected in tragic ways due to the economic conditions.

They have had to scale down their spending habits on luxury items and forced to buy essential items only. Other families have experienced the effects of diminished 401(k) funds, retirement benefits, increase in health care benefit cost, and even reduced pay.

Families may include a stay at home mom or dad who are looking for a smart way to bring extra income into the household without the burden of added expense. Starting a home based business can be just the fix and confidence builder that families are looking for.

Here are a few benefits:

Having Tax Advantages (for business related expenses, etc.) Having A Rewarding Career ( able to leverage time and accomplishing more) Having Control Of Their Life (more family time, and what’s really important in their life) Revenue Sharing (able to generate true residual income to meet family financial needs))

There are dozens of legitimate MLM companies that have essential products and services which a family can work at home with and include within their normal lifestyle. Some careful consideration must be given when looking at and deciding upon which company to choose to work with.

It must be a fit for the family and provide the necessary options, such as training, support teams, regular conference calls, internet network marketing training, web sites and all of the appropriate tools to assist them in moving forward.

They must understand that network marketing is not a get rich quick venture. It takes ample time to build a successful home business that will provide the true residual income that will offer the benefits they are looking for.

In order to progress they must also be willing to dedicate the time that is necessary to train and develop new skills. It can be lots of fun, very empowering and rewarding to have a family business.

The “Harvest” can offer many benefits for the average family such as financial freedom, job freedom, time freedom and a complete life make over.

By: Marco Brown
